The USGA has announced that Mike Davis will be the new and just its seventh executive director in the 116 year history of the organization.
It is yet to be determined if Davis will don the bow tie in honor of the distinguished David B. Fay, but nonetheless, the blue blazers have made a wise and popular choice. Davis’ previous position was as the senior director of Rules and Competitions. The most notable competition is the United States Open Championship which is responsible for the majority of revenue that keeps the USGA afloat. More recently, Davis is responsible for introducing a more flexible system in setting up the golf course for the US Open as well as including one drivable par four in the championship.
"I am humbled and extremely grateful to the United States Golf Association for the trust and confidence it has placed in me as the executive director,” said Davis, who assumes his new responsibilities effective immediately. “I am passionate about the USGA and its mission. The work of the Association is done by thousands of volunteers and hundreds of staff, whose collective efforts truly help better the game that so many of us love.”
